Network

The University of Pisa not only manages the internal network of its buildings but also plays a pivotal role in providing technological support for the local area.
In addition to connecting the campuses and data centers of the university, the digital infrastructure of Pisa is integrated into the national research network (GARR-T) and contributes to the development of the community networks of Pisa and Livorno, in collaboration with public entities and scientific institutions.

University Network

The campus of the University of Pisa coincides with the city itself: over 250 university buildings are connected by an optical fiber network of approximately 30,000 km, distributed over 90 km of ducting. The infrastructure, whose main indicators are collected in the section IT in numbers, is supported by 4 interconnected data centers, including the Green Data Center in San Piero a Grado.

GARR-T Network

The University of Pisa is connected to the national research network GARR-T, shared with the main scientific and educational institutions in the area: CNR, INFN, INGV, Scuola Normale Superiore, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Stella Maris, and the schools of Pisa.

Civic Network of the Province of Pisa

The provincial civic network integrates the digital infrastructures of numerous public entities and institutions: Municipality of Pisa, Prefecture, Court, Carabinieri, State Police, Firefighters, Pisa Hospital-University Company, and Consortium Basso Valdarno.

Fiber Network of the Municipality of Livorno

The University of Pisa is involved in the development of the fiber optic network of the Municipality of Livorno, with infrastructures that connect schools, technical institutes, the Mascagni Conservatory, the Dogana d’Acqua (ISPRA), and the CNR site at Scoglio della Regina.
