Internet-40 | At the Palazzo della Sapienza a meeting for the 40th anniversary of the first Internet node in Italy

The next May 13, 2026, at the New Great Hall of the Palazzo della Sapienza in Pisa, there will be “Internet-40. From the first connection to digital citizens”, an initiative promoted on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the activation of the first Internet node in Italy. The event will offer a moment of reflection on the significance of that historical milestone and the evolution of the network, which is now at the center of profound technological and social transformations.

The meeting will focus on some of the most relevant themes of the present and near future, from the relationship between innovation and digital citizenship to the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, security, and new vulnerabilities of online society. Starting from the memory of the first Italian connection to the Internet, the initiative aims to open a space for discussion on the role of the network in collective life and the responsibilities that accompany its development.

The event is organized by the CIDIC – Center for Innovation and the Dissemination of Culture at the University of Pisa and represents an opportunity to revisit a fundamental stage in the history of the Internet in Italy, while simultaneously opening a reflection on the future perspectives of the digital world.
