# Overleaf | Access for External Collaborators

## What it is for

[Overleaf UniPi](https://overleaf.unipi.it/login) allows you to work online and collaboratively on the drafting of scientific documents in LaTeX.

Faculty, researchers, and other authorized personnel at the University of Pisa can also involve **external co-authors and collaborators** in their projects. To allow them to access the platform, it is necessary to create a guest account through the [Identity portal](https://identity.unipi.it/) and assign the **Overleaf** resource to it.

## Who can create the account

The creation of credentials for external users and the assignment of the related resources can only be carried out by **authorized personnel** responsible for managing accounts on the Identity portal.

## Required data

Before starting the procedure, ask the external collaborator for the following information:

- first name;
- last name;
- tax code;
- personal email address;
- mobile number;
- date of birth;
- country of birth;
- region of birth;
- province of birth;
- municipality of birth.

## Creating the collaborator's account

1. Access the [Identity](https://identity.unipi.it/) portal with your UniPi credentials or via SPID/CIE.
2. Start the procedure for creating a new account.
3. Enter the external collaborator's details.
4. Complete the creation of the account.

During this phase, it is preferable to **not assign the Overleaf resource yet**.

## Account activation

After the account is created, the collaborator will automatically receive a communication from the University of Pisa.

The collaborator must follow the instructions received to:

1. complete the account activation;
2. choose a password;
3. inform the UniPi referent that the activation has been completed.

## Assign the Overleaf resource

After receiving confirmation of activation:

1. log back into the [Identity](https://identity.unipi.it/) portal;
2. search for the collaborator's account;
3. open the section dedicated to resources or services;
4. assign the **Overleaf** resource;
5. save the changes.

## Access Overleaf

Once the resource is assigned, the collaborator will be able to access the platform:

[Access Overleaf UniPi](https://overleaf.unipi.it/)

To authenticate, they will need to use:

- such as username, the email address associated with the account;
- such as password, the one chosen during account activation.
